As a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist I work with individuals, couples, and families from a family systems approach. I also use Cognitive Behavioral therapy in my work. I have had over 20 years’ experience working with clients on a variety of issues including: Relationships, anxiety and depression, women’s issues, abuse, stress and burnout, setting boundaries, and grief and loss.
My years of counseling experience has included working with several people who have lost loved ones to suicide. Anyone who has dealt with a suicide knows this is a loss that can be more traumatic than other types of losses and the healing process is longer and more complicated. In addition to counseling survivors, I have co-authored a book for survivors from a faith-based perspective, Finding Your Way After the Suicide of Someone you Love. I have led support groups for survivors and have spoken at conferences and workshops on suicide.
I believe that people can change in a positive, strength-based environment and learn to live beyond the issues that have held them captive in the past. I help people heal and change by exploring their past, present and their future, and by developing good coping skills, setting healthy boundaries, and by finding resources and strengths within themselves, their family of origin, their support network, and their faith and spirituality.
